Thank you for choosing the Mercator
For years we have designed briefcases and backpacks around a single idea: everything in its place, nothing buried. The Mercator is that idea on wheels, built with the same attention to detail as the work bags that came before it.
We hope it carries you well, from the first meeting to the last flight. This guide covers how its features work, how to keep it sharp, and how your warranty protects you.
The magnetic twist clasp
The interior compression strap closes with a magnetic twist clasp. It fastens instantly and releases with a twist.
To fasten
Bring the two halves close. The magnets pull them together and align on their own, so the buckle seats in a single motion. No lining up, no pressing.
To release
Hold one half in each hand and twist. The magnets let go and the strap opens.
Your Mercator has a built-in, TSA-approved combination lock. It ships set to 0-0-0.
Set your own code
- Start with the dials at 0-0-0.
- Press and hold the recessed reset button until it clicks. A pen tip helps.
- Turn the dials to your chosen three-digit code.
- Push the release button toward the arrow until it clicks. The reset button pops back up, and your code is set.
Opening. Enter your code, then push the release button toward the arrow to free the zipper pulls. TSA agents can open the lock with a master key for inspection and relock it without damage; you may find their inspection card inside if they do.
Keep a record. Write your code down and store it somewhere safe. To change it later, set the dials to your current code and repeat the steps above.
Returning during your trial? Reset the lock to 0-0-0 before you send the bag back.
The lock houses a pass-through charging port. It holds no battery of its own. Place your own power bank inside the case and connect it to the internal Type-C plug — a USB-A to Type-C adapter works too. The external USB-A and Type-C sockets then charge your phone or other devices without opening the bag. Use each device's original cable.
A note on flying.
Because the case carries no battery of its own, the only lithium item on board is the power bank you add — and airline rules on those have tightened. As of 2026, most major carriers require any power bank to be removable, rated under 100Wh, and carried in the cabin, never checked. If you check the Mercator, or it is gate-checked, take the power bank out and keep it with you.
Caring for the leather front
The Togo-grain front panel is a vegan leather with a structured hand-feel. It is splash resistant, and a little care keeps it looking sharp:
- Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Blot spills — don’t rub them in.
- Splash resistant, not waterproof. The front handles light rain and the occasional spill. Don’t soak it or leave it submerged in water.
- Skip solvents, alcohol, and abrasive cleaners. They can damage the finish, and that damage isn’t covered by your warranty.
- Let it dry naturally, away from direct heat and sun. Store the bag somewhere cool and dry between trips.
- For extra protection in extreme weather or long-term storage, add a matching luggage sleeve.
Shell, wheels, and handle
Shell
The shell is molded from Makrolon® polycarbonate, the high-performance material engineered by Covestro of Germany for impact and scratch resistance that holds its shape through heat and humidity, and stays tough in the cold. It is built to take knocks. Wipe it with a damp cloth to clean; avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
Wheels
The bag rolls on HINOMOTO Lisof® Silent Run wheels, made in Nagoya, Japan. Their Lisof® tyre absorbs road vibration for a quiet, smooth glide. They need little care — clear grit from the axles now and then to keep them turning freely.
Handle
Extend and lower the telescoping handle fully until it clicks. When lifting a packed bag, use the top or side handle rather than the telescoping one.
Your warranty
Every Mercator is covered by a 100-day trial and a 10-year limited warranty. This is a summary of the terms; the full policy lives at maverickandco.co/pages/luggage-warranty.
100-day trial
Take up to 100 days to be sure. If it isn’t right, send it back within 100 days of delivery. Trial returns apply to luggage kept in brand-new, unused condition, complete with original packaging and the lock reset to 0-0-0.
10-year limited warranty
Year 1 — hassle-free. We cover both functional issues (wheels, handles, zippers, trolley, TSA lock) and manufacturing defects. We’ll repair the piece, or replace it if it can’t be repaired.
Years 2–10. We cover manufacturing defects that surface from regular use or existed before sale — such as handle or wheel hydrolysis and wheel detachment.
How we define the line
A manufacturing defect is a fault in materials or construction present from the point of manufacture, even if it shows up later. On our luggage that means a defined set of failures: hydrolysis of the plastic handles or wheels (the material breaking down on its own), a wheel detaching from a sound mount, or a missing expansion zipper puller. Manufacturing defects are covered for the full 10 years.
A functional issue is a loss of function that comes from use rather than from how the part was made — a wheel worn down over the miles, a zipper strained out of line, a handle loosened with repeated use. Functional issues are covered through the first year; after that, they’re treated as wear and tear.
Repairs, made simple
Many fixes are quick. Our self-repair kit covers zipper pullers, top and side handles, TSA locks, and wheels — most take minutes, and replacing a part doesn’t restart your warranty period.
What isn’t covered
Accidental damage (excessive force, overpacking, extreme temperatures, moisture and sun, cuts and abrasion), cosmetic wear (minor dents, scratches, scuffs, stains), and normal wear and tear. Airline and transit damage is handled by the carrier, not this warranty — report it before you leave baggage claim.
How to make a claim
- Have your order number and proof of purchase ready.
- Visit the Warranty Center and submit your claim.
- We’ll review, then repair or replace at our option. You cover shipping to the service center.
Good to know. Coverage runs from the date of purchase, applies to luggage bought from our official website from 1 January 2026, and extends to the original owner or gift recipient only. No registration needed — just keep your proof of purchase. Questions: support@maverickandco.co
Quick answers
It’s sized for cabin use and cleared on major US, European, and Asia-Pacific carriers. Sizing varies by airline, so check yours before you fly.
The case has no battery of its own. The power bank you add must be removable, under 100Wh, and carried in the cabin — not checked.
Follow the steps in the TSA-007 lock section above and set the dials to 0-0-0. This is also required for trial returns.
Report it to the carrier before you leave baggage claim. Transit damage is the airline’s responsibility, not the warranty’s.
Built to redefine every journey
We didn't set out to make another suitcase — we set out to rethink what one could be.
We hope you enjoy your Mercator just as mush as we do.
